Do You Have Your Graduation Staircase Photo?

Class 66-20 provided by (me) Jill Richey Rohan
I am on the far right 2nd row.
The Kiwi Club has a project underway to obtain Staircase/Graduation photos to retain in our Archives. We'll also be adding them to the Memories section of this website as well as have them available to share. We would love to have yours!
Many of us remember that day so clearly: standing together in uniform, newly graduated, proud of our wings, and ready to begin our flying careers. At the time, it may have felt like just a class photo. Looking back now, it was the beginning of friendships, travels, stories, and memories that stayed with us for a lifetime.
Please take a look through your photo albums, files, drawers, and keepsake boxes. If you can find your graduation staircase photo:
-
send us a copy and include whatever information you have:
-
your name, class date or year,
-
names of classmates,
-
any memory connected with the photo.
These pictures are part of our shared American Airlines story, and it would be wonderful to preserve them together.

-

-

-

-
AA stopped flying the DC-3 in 1947

The Douglas DC-3 is often called the airplane that changed commercial aviation. It was the first airliner that could reliably make a profit carrying passengers rather than depending primarily on mail contracts. American Airlines played a major role in its development, helping Douglas create a sleeper version that evolved into the famous DC-3.
The aircraft typically carried between 21 and 32 passengers and was staffed by a single stewardess. In those early years, stewardesses were often registered nurses and provided a level of personal service that became a hallmark of airline travel. Passengers enjoyed comfortable seats, hot meals served on china, and attentive service that helped make flying an appealing alternative to train travel.
The DC-3 helped establish American Airlines as a leader in passenger service and transformed flying from an adventure for a few into a practical transportation option for many. Nearly ninety years later, it remains one of the most influential aircraft ever built and a symbol of the beginning of the modern airline industry.
